2017 Aphros  Vinho Verde, Portugal  12/46

Fresh, clean, bright pale yellow with a citrus hue and lemony nose. A wine with the backbone of granite, where the aroma is dominated by fruits and flowers, including whispers of lime and orange with the essential oils of their skins. A fresh wash of key lime, grapefruit and perfumed melon invade the mouth, guided by a quick but heavy attack of acidity with a relentless mouth filling persistence that keeps going and going.

Picpoul

2018 Château Petit Roubié  Picpoul de Pinet, France  10/38

Picpoul, Picpoul, Picpoul, how do we love thee. Considered the “Muscadet of the South” and grown just meters from the oyster beds of the Bassin de Thau, this wine loosely translates to “lip stinger,” which refers to the wine’s bracing acidity. This is pretty much the only wine you need for any summertime adventure.

Fresh and tangy, soft and smooth, for those looking to get a little more body out of their whites. Round on the palate with a respectable backbone of acidity and chew, this wine screams of spring and all the fun things that go along with it.

We get asked this question A LOT: “So is this Chardonnay really oaky and heavy?” Our response: “You haven’t lived until you’ve crushed a glass of ice cold Chablis.” Suffice to say Chardonnay has gotten a bad rap in America today. We’re changing that perception one glass at a time, nothing could thrill us more.

2017 Negro Angelo ‘Angelin’  Langhe, Italy  13/50

Nothing says Fall like Nebbiolo. A fine, albeit young, expression of this grape from a storied Piedmontese family who’s been making sublime wines from some of the region’s most excellent vineyard sites. Fine tannins, bright acid, and a persistent finish, the hallmarks of Italy’s finest grape varietal.

Gamay 

2017 Domaine de la Voûte des Crozes  Côte de Brouilly, France 14/54

A fun little secret about this wine, and one that speaks volumes about what’s inside the bottle, is that Kermit Lynch himself, the famous wine importer, is said to be a feverish collector of this wine as it represents everything that’s right in the world: woman owned, natural winemaking, and a laser-like focus on quality over quantity. Simply put, this is great wine.

This totally opaque, black as night red bursts from the glass with ripe black currants laced with black olives and bay leaf jammed up against toasty cedar, a touch of vanilla, and a whisper of dried herbs and spice. And that’s just the nose. Grab a glass and see what it tastes like!  Tobacco, bay leaf, sage.

2010 Bodegas LAN ‘Gran Reserva’  Rioja, Spain  16/62

It’s been almost 10 years since its birth but this wine is showing no signs of dying. What makes this wine so nice is the grippy tannins mixed with tart black cherries and currants, backed up with violets, black pepper, mint, black tea, and a lovely freshness. Hot damn!

Sangiovese

2012 Poggio Scalette  Chianti Classico, Italy  14/54

A few years of bottle age in the cellar has created a wonderful expression of Sangiovese grown in the superlative Chianti Classico region of Tuscany. This lovely gem has dark red and black stone fruits, spices, leather, and menthol that meld together in a supple yet strong wine.
